Catherine J. Wigal, 90, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026 at the NYS Veterans Home Oxford. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas D. Scalise; her parents, Nick and Helen Dellapenta; her brother, Eugene; and sister-in-law, Irene Dellapenta; and stepson, Matt Wigal. Catherine is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Gary L. Wigal; her two devoted children, Marcia Ehret and James Scalise (Deborah); five loving grandchildren, Maxwell Ehret (Kara Geller), Marcella Sykucki (Michael), Hannah Scalise (Alec Rodriguez), Nicholas Scalise and Olivia Scalise; four great-grandchildren, Sanford Ehret, Julian Ehret, Sophia Rodriguez and Eva Rodriguez; three nieces, Karen Lane (Mark), Diane Swift and Carol Dellapenta; a cousin, Olga Kurty; her best friend, Jean Stewart and four stepchildren. Catherine, a retired executive secretary at Harper & Row, Conklin, was a member of the Church of Saints John and Andrew and a graduate of Binghamton High School where she was the Head Majorette. Catherine was a skilled bowler who received a number of awards and trophies. For many years, Catherine and Gary were members of “The Club” a group of siblings and cousins who gathered together monthly for food, drinks and laughs. Catherine loved to dance and read. She was an avid sports fan, who particularly enjoyed watching NFL games, golf and thoroughbred racing. But most of all, she loved the Lord and was devoted to her family. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Veterans Home Oxford for their exceptional and loving care of Catherine. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at the Conklin Cemetery in the Spring. The family will receive friends at Bednarsky Funeral Home, 96 Glenwood Avenue, Binghamton, NY on Sunday, March 1st from 2:00-6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy Catherine may be made to NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, 4207 NY Rte. 220, Oxford, NY 13830.
